Debut novelist’s trifecta of touring, partnering with other artists and putting his money where is mouth is, garners major industry buzz
When we had the opportunity to begin working with historical fiction novelist Jeffrey Stayton, author of the gorgeous and gritty Civil War novel THIS SIDE OF THE RIVER, we knew we were working with someone special–and booksellers and media outlets nationwide agreed! We designed a cross-country tour for debut author Jeff, with 20-plus tour stops at venues and festivals, from Southern mega-fests like SIBA (Southern Independent Booksellers Association) and the venerable Southern Festival of Books book festival in Nashville, TN, to independent booksellers across the country, to more unusual but fitting venues like museums and Civil War reenactment festivals.
We also set up a “Cheer for the Bookstore!” $250 Scholarship Contest, where indie bookstores everywhere could enter to win by writing how they would use the money (one of the highlights of the tour for Jeff was getting to stop in to the winning stores and meet the booksellers!).
Jeff also participated in unique promotions such as The Trio Project via SIBA, which paired him with a musician and artist who each created an original song and piece of art, respectively, based on his novel, effectively joining the literary, musical, and visual arts; the Trio art toured the South after SIBA and was displayed in numerous states!
